Hard to believe but kids here are already back to school. Pinellas County started yesterday and over in Tampa I think they started last week. And they don't get out in May, their summer vacation starts in June too.
Only a couple weeks away for most. You can feel it in the air. As many try to get in as much summer fun as they can, they realize that it lurks in the not to distant future. Funny how many of the parental types are kind of rejoicing in it's iminent arrival. They seem to revel in it. Going as far as shopping to prepare their kids for it. There is still time for funshine in the sunshine. There are still fests to attend, P [img]cool.gif[/img] [img]cool.gif[/img] L S to swim in and play in, beaches and parks to visit, outdoor fun, grillouts, picnic, movies, outdoor shows and concerts continue on even with it moving closer and closer to arriving. Do not fear it, for it is actually for your own good. It's something that can actually be a good thing and should be. There is much to be learned when it arrives and yuou can get much out of it if you apply yourself. So enjoy what summer you have left. There will still be weekends of fun and the weather should allow for a continuation of summer fun well into the beginning of the next season.
Stand tall, let it come, take it on whole heartedly and do not fear it.

Anywho, it does seem a little different now. I actually agree that starting after the fireworks might be best.
I guess you get the same amount of summer, it just starts and ends a little earlier.
Greg, it goes without saying that some of us 'of a certain age' did indeed have to walk uphill both ways in the snow.
Please explain your math to me. GL stated that the FL kids get out in June and return in August. How is that the SAME summer vacation we had back when we got out in May and returned in September?

I just meant that it seems like kids around here start the school year earlier and end it earlier than when I was school age. I'm sure it's not that much different though.

We did things like play outside in the fresh air Greg...So many kids today are obese because they sit in school all day, come home and plop down in front of the tv or computer and never get outside and do anything physical like they should.

Three channels then; 200+ now with the dish and I STILL don't watch TV much. (Parenthetical aside: Trav was in Mexico last week and I was weary of reading. Turned on the lobotomy box and had to call DirecTV to have the something-something done. Apparently after 4 weeks without a connection, one cannot receive the channels one pays for.)

Sports, news, comedy, cartoons and then some music stuff like that.
A few educational things, a couple food shows and maybe just maybe something reality like here and there (rock star or something like that)

Started seeing all the "Back To School" sales and stuff in the paper and stores recently.
Doesnt matter as much to me since I dont have any children, but it does change the mornings and afternoons all over.
The park is much quieter during the weekdays. A little less traffic, the malls and movie theatres are a little less busy during the weekdays.
Jobs change as well, as the kids going to school or going away to college an no longer work certain shifts. They either cant work at certain times or cant stay as late or come in as early.
Been a hot summer, but a pretty good one.
Seems like many of the kids around here like school anywho and are not loathing their return to the classroom.
